Bath certainly is a first class place to visit. The Romans called this place 'Aquae Sulis' and they built the town around Britains only natural hot springs, which continued to be the centre peice throughout the Middle Ages.
It was, however, the Georgians that really transformed this city into the spectacular place that it is now. The architecture really is unrivalled elsewhere in the country. There are still Roman ruins and a 15th century Abbey and Monastery to be viewed but the structures that the Georgians created truly make this a delight explore.
With all this history floating around there are countless museums to visit. You can't miss going to the Roman Baths and Pump Room, with its Great Bath built around the springs and the temple remains, there are many treasures on exibit and these are some of the finest Roman remains in the country. The fine Georgian Pump Room restaurant is also a treat that you should put on your list of things to do!
The oldest house in Bath believed to be from 1483 or thereabouts is what became home and bakery to Sally Lunn. In 1680 she started creating her famous buns and today there is a museum situated here to guide you through her bit of history and also a refreshment room where you can still sample the Sally Lunn bun!
In Bennett Street you will find the Museum of Costume. An extensive and fascinating collection of 400 years of history, its an interesting timeline to walk through and the museum has specific exhibits throughout the year. They have over 30,000 original peices to choose from to display, so there is surely something of interest for everyone to look at.
Number 1 Royal Crescent, now a World Heritage Building, is a beautifully restored 18th Century house. Refurbished to its original glory it's a good way to see what life was like for a certain class of person in Gerogian times.
There is so much more to see in Bath that you need days to really see all its glory. There are more museums or galleries like the Victoria Ary Gallery, which has splendid exhibitions and many fine collections, waiting to be visited. But also the city itself with the many shops has a bustling atmosphere that is enjoyable in itself. A city that is alive in summer and winter it's a welcoming place to a visitor any time of year and certainly a trip not regretted.
